18th Century Early Georgian Marble Fireplace

Fine Late 18th century Scottish chimneypiece in statuary marble, the fluted pillars support carved capitals depicting the Greek gods Justica (justice) and Ceres (harvest). The frieze has reeded moulding leading to a plaque depicting Hebe the goddess of youth feeding Zeus's eagle. Removed from a property in Dumfries, Scotland.
